Mami Higuchi + Naoji Ishiyama: Consonance

(18th November – 9th December 2013 – Gallery Leões)

This exhibition presents the status of two Japanese printmakers living and working in Europe.

Mami Higuchi has been in Portugal for 14 years and Naoji Ishiyama has been in Finland for 10 years. Being in foreign country means a lot for the artists. By getting influences from the differences and similarities of European and Japanese culture, they keep re-examining their identity as a person.

Two views dealing with light and darkness, with the contrast of the possible and the actual, through prints that embrace European realities as experienced by Japanese printmakers with a common background.  The questions they pose make to the visitors conjecture what is bright, what is dark, what is cold, what is warm, through images influenced by life experiences in the two extremes of the Old Continent.
