Mare Saare: AFTERIMAGE/Images onto glass
Saving fleeting moments changes the real images. Afterimages are projected in our memories, oftentimes already different – blurred and abstract. Occasionally, nevertheless, they can be even sharper than the originals. Photos are materialized memories, permanent afterimages. The aim of this course is to create glass objects with printed images complemented with painting on glass and/or other techniques. The process involves working with photographic and/or drawn images, printing them on a special transparencies, firing on glass which may be prepared by painting, engraving, sanblasting etc. After firing glass may be fused in layers to complete bigger objects or composed in any other way.
Detailed program
Day one:
1. Print photos or drawings.
2. Discuss the possibilities of using them in an art work.
3. We find and prepare the glass material for printing.
4. Discussion of kiln temperatures and then deciding about painting or engraving or sandblasting or some other additional techniques.
Day two:
5. Time out for firing schedule.
Day three:
6. Second firing.
7. Cold-finishing the objects: beveling the edges, polishing etc.

– Send up to three photos or drawings EXPRESSLY UNTIL THE 30th SEPTEMBER to pureprint@mail.fba.up.pt so that the artist can edit them and bring them ready for the workshop.
