Andrew Folan: Grasping the Untouchable
Translating the free-form genesis of animated digital entities into actual sculptures using three-dimensional printing.
The class will consist of a demonstration (master class) of my own production methods in 3D software. I practice a form of digital morphogenesis – the establishment and evolution and translation of virtual entities. I am particularly interested in the implications of materializing these entities, in how products of virtual environments can be made manifest in actual forms. I will include examples of the translation of my sculptures from virtual to actual using Rapid Prototyping. I will present a lecture on the theory and philosophy of my methodology. I will include examples of my printmaking practice and discuss its relation to my digital 3D productions.
