Ana Margarida Rocha: Aquatipia on paper and glass

This demonstration explores aquatipia on paper and on glass working with layers and using masks. “Aquatipia” is a hybrid process between painting, drawing and printmaking . Starting from the incompatibility between the oil and water, it is possible to produce drawings on an aqueous surface, where oil-based colors, float on water, controlling their distribution, structure and density and then, imprint them to the final substrate.

During demonstration  participants will follow how to create an “aquatipia” on paper and glass substrates

On paper:

Introduction and overview of the process of ” aquatipia”: substracts, inks and bath

Testing with one color and mixed colours; plain color and meshes

Preparation of reserves and masks for subsequent layers

On glass:

Preparation of glass (handblasting), enamels (high and low firing) and vehicles (linseed oil and water mixable oil)

Transferring the ink to the glass

Firing the glass
