Alexandra Rafael – Handmade Transfer Papers

This demonstration covers the use of handmade transfer papers and its application both in relief and intaglio techniques.

Transfer paper can be created with the application of gelatin or gum based solution on to a common drawing paper. This pre prepared paper is particularly suitable to transfer images to other surfaces such as printmaking plates, wood, linoleum or simply to other papers.

This demonstration will explain how to prepare the transfer paper and how to transfer images to different printmaking plates.

It will also show other possibilities of how to transfer drawings without the prepared paper, through the use of solvents or different papers combined with specific drawing instruments.
